Grade 9 Students Hike at Silent Lake Provincial Park

On a crisp, cool morning, 85 Grade 9 students and 11 staff members from Lakefield College School set off for an adventure at Silent Lake Provincial Park. The stunning autumn colours provided the perfect backdrop as students embarked on an 8-10 km hike and paddle around the lake, putting their outdoor education skills into practice.

Throughout the day, students demonstrated their preparedness and teamwork as they navigated both land and water. Along the way, they paused for a lunch break, using portable stoves to cook up warm bowls of soup and hot chocolate—essential skills they've honed since the beginning of September.

The experience was not just about exploring the beauty of Silent Lake; it was a valuable opportunity for students to refine their paddling, hiking, and campcraft skills in real-world conditions. This hike and paddle also marked the completion of the "Practice Journey" component for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, which all Grade 9 students at Lakefield College School will work toward achieving this year.

By the end of the day, it was clear that our students' hard work and preparation paid off, and they returned to campus with sharper skills and new memories.
