On June 12, 2024, Lakefield College School celebrated our annual Gladiator Day, a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit of teamwork and friendly competition. Students, faculty, and staff came together to participate in a series of exciting challenges and activities, from obstacle courses to relay races, jousting, and more, the day was packed with energy and enthusiasm.

LCS Goes to Camp Medeba
On April 25, our Grade 10 and 11 Outdoor Education (OE) students travelled to Camp Medeba in Haliburton for the annual "Adrenaline Day!" experience. Our classes participated in a series of challenges that were not only thrilling, but also required strategic thinking, problem-solving, and a healthy dose of courage.

LCS Students Plant an Orchard
The Northcote Team is thrilled to announce the beginning stages of implementing a future apple orchard as part of our keysto student experiences. The hands-on experience and close involvement with the orchard will provide students with a unique learning opportunity. On Thursday, April 18th, Service Learning students collaborated with Bruce McMahon to plant our first trees. This marks a continuation of an inspiring journey of growth and education at Northcote. We are excited to witness how our orchard will flourish and grow.

The Goodie Bag Initiative
The Entrepreneurship Club is pleased to launch its latest venture—Goodie Bag. With the school’s support, students have started selling Asian snack foods to their peers with the goal of bringing sweets from Asian cultures to LCS to help students feel at home. Proceeds from snack sales are donated to the New Canadians Centre of Peterborough and the business itself provides the Entrepreneurship Club with hands-on experience in marketing, business operations, customer service, and more.

Career Day Address | Marc Parent
We are so grateful to CAE President and CEO, Marc Parent, CM P '15 '18 '20, for visiting our students this week on Career Day and delivering a keynote address about building a career you're passionate about and embracing the non-linear path you may take to arrive at your final destination. Our students learned so much from Marc and had endless questions about navigating the twists and turns, ups and downs of the professional world. His insights left them inspired and motivated to pursue their interests with determination.

Bullets Over Broadway Highlights
Congratulations to the 75 cast, crew, directors, designers, and musicians involved in this year’s winter musical, Bullets Over Broadway, performed in The Bryan Jones Theatre. With four packed performances for over 1,000 audience members, including peers, faculty, staff, families and friends of LCS, the production was nothing short of phenomenal.

OFSAA at LCS
This season marked another major highlight of winter athletics at LCS as we had the privilege of co-hosting the 2024 OFSAA Nordic Skiing Championships. Over 600 student-athletes from across Ontario came together to compete on February 22 and 23, 2024.

Despite the unpredictable weather, Mr. Andras’ Grade 11 Leadership in Outdoor Recreation classes embarked on an unforgettable winter camping adventure, showcasing resilience, camaraderie, and a deep connection with the great outdoors.

Winter Carnival 2024
This year’s Winter Carnival at Northcote Campus saw staff and students take full advantage of our beautiful winter. From tobogganing to snow sculpture competitions, carriage rides, snowshoeing, and campfires, the day was filled with opportunities to socialize outdoors, engage in friendly competition, and create new memories together.

K-Rod 2024
On Tuesday, February 6, Lakefield College School's annual tradition, Katchewanooka Rod (K-Rod), lit up Matthews Field with excitement. This unique take on the Iditarod saw teams of six students from each paper house compete in sprint races, with one musher leading the charge.

The Dance Showcase '20' paid homage to two decades of dance excellence at LCS. With over 75 talented dancers, the stage came to life with mesmerizing choreography spanning several dance genres.

Friday Night Lights 2023
On Friday, October 13, LCS students and staff celebrated Friday Night Lights with an evening of fun sporting competition, cheering, and celebration. From soccer to volleyball, basketball, and field hockey, our students used the skills they've honed throughout the fall athletics season to demonstrate skill, perseverance, and grit.

The day began with a sunrise paddle at 7:00 a.m. Although the weather was cool and crisp, the water was beautiful and this activity provided a tranquil and reflective start to the day for those who participated.

On September 30, 2023, Lakefield College School hosted its first Fall Fair since YEAR at Northcote Campus was an absolute blast! Over 700 community members—students, parents, alumni, alumni parents, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends)—joined us for a sunny afternoon of fall festivities at our Northcote Campus.

Opening Week 2023
Our campus came to life and The Grove returned to its vibrant state as our students arrived. Grade 12 students participated in our Grad Leadership Conference, an important annual tradition that creates the leadership foundation for the year. 2022/23 Highlights

Grad Jumps
An annual tradition, the Class of 2023 leaped into Lake Katchewanooka in full classroom dress after completing the last exam of their Lakefield College School career this year. This unique celebration symbolized not only the end of the school year but also the culmination of their high school exams and the exciting journey that lies ahead.

On Wednesday, June 7, Lakefield College School students took part in the 15th annual Gladiator Day! Festivities began right after classes as students gathered in the McEwen Gym, full of energy, and ready to kick off the day with chariot races. Echoes of Paper House cheers rang throughout the gym as students rallied support for their peers and let their competitive streak shine.

Grade 9 Canoe Trip
Lakefield College School's Grade 9 students embarked on a 3-day canoe trip through Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park where they put their outdoor skills, teamwork, and determination to the test. The trip served as a culmination of their learning and a chance to challenge themselves to paddle, portage, set up camp, cook, and clean up, in a new environment.

White Water Rafting
Embarking on an unforgettable adventure, our Grade 10 Outdoor Education students set out on a captivating wilderness tour led by Mr. Andras and Mr. Bemrose. This immersive experience took them deep into the heart of nature, where they explored our beautiful landscapes, challenged themselves physically and mentally, and further cultivated their love for the outdoors.

Sunrise Paddle
Waking up early was worth it for this beautiful Earth Day sunrise paddle! The peaceful waters of Lake Katchewanooka provided the perfect backdrop for students and staff to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the world around them. We loved seeing so many students and staff coming together to take part in this annual tradition, focussed on connecting in nature.

DEI Club
Through our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion club, LCS students take pride in demonstrating action-based activism as they work to address issues pertaining to DEI in the community and beyond.

Maple Harvest 2023
Our maple syrup program offers students a hands-on learning experience that combines environmental science, history, and chemistry. Every spring our students begin tapping maple trees to start the process of collecting sap. It takes about 40 pails of sap to make just one pail of syrup, which is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students.

K-Rod 2023
The crisp winter air was electric with excitement as the annual Katchewanooka Rod (K-Rod) finally took place on Wednesday, March 8. K-Rod isn't just a competition, it's a testament to the indomitable spirit of LCS. The event helped to get everyone outdoors and enjoy the winter season together, while also fostering camaraderie.

OFSAA at LCS
LCS had the privilege of co-hosting the 2023 OFSAA Nordic Skiing Championships. Over 700 student-athletes from across Ontario came together to compete of February 23 and 24 for an exhilarating day on the trails. Thank you for everyone involved in making these days a success!

Camp Medeba
The Grade 11 OE classes traveled to Camp Medeba to focus on leadership skills, communication, and team building. Thrilling and fun activities help students take personal risks and push their limits to achieve what they feel may be impossible.

Winter Carnival 2023
On February 10, 2023, LCS students, staff, and faculty came together to enjoy our annual Winter Carnival, which featured many classic Canadian wintertime festivities and activities. Tobogganing, snow sculpture competitions, carriage rides, snowshoeing, and campfires were just some of the many activities on offer, and there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Ted Pope Day '23
This annual event began in 1970 and is a wonderful opportunity for us to get outside, enjoy nature through sport, and connect with each other as a community. Our students enjoyed an extension of their Winter Spirit Week as events like K-Rod and Winter Carnival were sprinkled throughout the month of February, extending the fun.

Our Grade 11 students recently ventured into the great outdoors for a camping trip to Northcote. Despite facing sub-zero temperatures and snow, they rose to the challenge and embarked on a thrilling adventure that they'll likely never forget.

12 Days of the Holidays
On December 20, all of our students gathered in the McEwen Gym for a holiday-themed Chapel program. Our students took part, with fervour and zeal, in a sing-a-long inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas. The 12 Days of Holidays, written by our School Life Class, acknowledges each of our 12 houses. On Saturday, September 17, our students finished off their September Intersession experiences by running and walking in honour of Terry Fox. Each year, schools across Canada run and walk to continue Terry Fox's Legacy of Hope.

Home to the Grove 2022 Highlights
May marked a milestone for Lakefield College School. After almost two years of being apart, we gathered to commemorate milestone reunions for classes ending in '0, '1, '2, '5, '6, and '7. As a result, over 700 community members joined us between May 27 and 29.

Anything Goes Highlights
Check out some terrific highlights from this year's musical, Anything Goes. Students danced, sang, and acted in scenes that ranged from comical to downright hilarious. From farcical Brooklyn accents to physical displays of comedy, there was so much to enjoy in this production.

Peterborough Circus Academy
The grade 11 and 12 dance classes tried something a little different at Peterborough Circus Academy. The students ran through an obstacle course that tested their balance, strength and agility and finished the day on silks.

Outdoor Education White Water
The grade 10 outdoor education class travelled to Burleigh Falls to take on some white water. They practiced how to safely maneuver in the rough water both in and out of their canoes.

Kawartha Highlands Canoe Trip
Our Grade 9 classes took a 3-day canoe trip through Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park to put their outdoor skills, teamwork, and determination to the test. The trip is both a test of our students’ skills and a celebration of what they have learned. Students paddled, portaged, set up camp, cooked, and cleaned over a span of three days.

Earth Day Intersession
Students enjoyed participating in a range of activities including packaging seeds, taking care of the beehives with Mr. Hart, yoga, cooking, frisbee golf, nature photography, scavenger hut, installing birdhouses, salt scrub-making, OE games, biking, wood stacking, fun run, garbage clean up in Lakefield, a walk at Northcote, canoeing and campfire treats, nature tea and journaling, and planting maple trees.

Ted Pope Day '22
Our students and staff travelled to Sir Sam’s in Haliburton for one of our favourite traditions for our community to get outside, enjoy nature through sport, and connect with each other as a community.

K-Rod 2022
This year’s annual Katchewanooka Rod (K-Rod) saw our students competing in teams in slalom, long-distance and sprint races. The event ended with fireworks and a lot of dancing and singing.

Printing Press
Ms. Morencie’s Grade 12 Art class experimented with Intaglio printmaking — a method of printing where artists etch their design into a piece of plexiglass before coating them with ink and pressing them in the printing press.

Winter Carnival 2022
This year's Winter Carnival saw students enjoying paper house relays, maple taffy, obstacle courses, a luge run, and horse-drawn sleigh rides through the snow at our Northcote Campus.

Ms. Bemrose's Grade 11/12 Dance class welcomed Isaac Eshikaty, from our Information Systems Team into the studio for a special lesson on Gumboot Dancing.

This program provides the opportunity to learn about food production and eco-farming through hands-on adventures on our school farm. Students plant, nurture, and harvest greens, root vegetables, and more, learning first-hand about the business of running a farm and the value of regenerative agriculture.

First Harvest at LCS Farm
This week marked an exciting new chapter at LCS as our new ½ acre vegetable garden yielded its first harvest! LCS Farmer, Kohl Kuntz planted vegetable seedlings at Northcote earlier this month and we’re thrilled that some of the produce is already ready to consume. Kohl harvested 15 pounds of bok choy, 10 pounds of romaine lettuce, and five pounds of kale.

Seed to Table - Adventures in Eco-Farming
This program provides the opportunity to learn about food production and eco-farming through hands-on adventures on our school farm. The Culture Project
Our Grade 12 students hosted an all-school intersession day, which saw students take part in activities designed to pass along and share stories of connection, tradition, and culture at LCS. And, most important, build the leadership confidence of their younger peers. This event was dubbed The Culture Project by our Co-Head students.

Learning Languages Through The Outdoors
Lakefield College School's Learning Languages through the Outdoors program offers students a unique opportunity to earn a credit in four weeks and improve their English or French language proficiency while enjoying the benefits of a Canadian summer outdoor experience.

Maple Syrup At The Grove
At The Grove, maple syrup production has long been a part of the traditions our students and staff enjoy in the Springtime. The roots of maple syrup production extend as deep as the roots of the campus maple trees themselves. We spoke to Mr. Garret Hart to learn more about this long-standing tradition.

On Wednesday, February 24, the entire school joined together in small groups to safely celebrate Winter Carnival Day! Students enjoyed paper house relay races, sweet treats from the Funnel Cake truck, snowball fights, tobogganing, snow soccer, great conversations, and sleigh rides through the snow at our Northcote Campus.

LCS Physics Students Build Balloon-Powered Cars
The LCS Physics class was assigned a culminating project of designing balloon-powered cars. Students experimented with different materials, calculated potential outcomes, and practiced different assembly techniques to convert potential energy into kinetic energy!

Friday Night Lights 2020
Our Fall Athletics season culminated in a demonstration of skill, perseverance, and grit during Friday Night Lights on Friday, November 6, 2020. Featuring halftime performances through live theatre, the LCS Dance Company, and our Jazz Band, this event was truly a demonstration of how students and staff have safely and creatively found ways to express and pursue their co-curricular passions.

LCS Staff Sing the School's Hymn
LCS faculty and staff sing the school's hymn, Jerusalem. One of the long standing traditions at LCS, grounded in our Anglican heritage, Jerusalem has been sung by generations of students and staff since Headmaster Alexander Mackenzie (1895-1940).

In March, the Lakefield College School 2020 Dance Showcase lit up the Bryan Jones Theatre and featured 30 dance performances, most of which were choreographed by students.

Camp Medeba offers Outdoor Education students valuable learning opportunities in leadership, team building, and community as they challenge themselves to try something new, learn different skills, and work together with their peers.

Winter Carnival 2020
In February 2020, LCS students enjoyed Winter Carnival activities, including sleigh rides, canoe toboggan races, frisbee, and more. Every season offers new opportunities to grow, connect, and learn together.

January 2020 Intersession
Intersession days occur periodically throughout the year, each grounded in themes that reflect the school’s value of educating the whole person. With programming developed for each grade level, intersession days offer unique opportunities for students to reflect on, question, and engage in activities designed to complement and enrich their in-class learning experience.

K-Rod 2020 Spirit Event
The annual Katchewanooka Rod (K-Rod) is a spirit event unique to Lakefield College School, which brings everyone outdoors to enjoy the winter season together. Paper Houses compete in teams of seven students in slalom, long-distance and sprint races to pull one musher across the finish line. The combination of music, fireworks and festivity makes it a special evening to enjoy time in community with one another.

Grade 10 Science Students Study Optics
In their physics unit, the Grade 10 Science class at LCS studied optics - how light reflects and refracts - by dissecting a cow eye. This hands on activity allowed students to integrate their lesson with a practical experience.

Ted Pope Day 2019
Ted Pope Day is named after an Old Boy who attended the Grove from 1939-1942. Ted Pope loved the thrill of adventure, and he found it skiing, mountain climbing and car racing. He was responsible for redefining the scope of downhill skiing, expanding into new areas with the addition of lifts, jumps, and inter-scholastic competition. Every year, LCS students celebrate Ted Pope Day by enjoying some of his favourite activities.

Winter Concert 2019
In December 2019, the LCS Music Department presented its annual Winter Concert. Performances by the Concert Band and Concert Choir were fantastic.

MOvember Polar Dip
The MOvember Polar Dip is a time when staff and students alike brave the icy waters of Lake Katchewanooka. Movember’s aim from the beginning has been to “change the face of men’s health”. This event reminds us that we’re all in this together, even if it hurts a little.

November 2019 Intersession
For intersession, students took part in a Mystery Substance Lab in which they were tasked with using scientific methods to determine what substance they had been given.

Remembrance Day 2019
On Tuesday, November 5, 2019 more than 130 students participated in the creation of a moving Remembrance Day service, a cross-curricular collaborative project which features Grade 11 drama, Grade 10 history and Grade 10/11 curricular dance students.

October 2019 Intersession
For intersession day, students took part in a Positivity Party! Students circulated through ten stations with exercises designed to bolster and cultivate their capacity to see their life through a more positive lens.

Simulated Archaeological Dig 2019
As a part of the first unit of the Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology course, Grade 11 students participated in a simulated archaeological dig. After the dig, students studied the artifacts and connected their findings with teachings from their lesson.

Crisis Simulation 2019
For over 20 years, the Grade 12 Outdoor Education class has participated in a Crisis Management Simulation, which incorporates communication and collaboration in a hands-on learning experience. This year, the crisis simulation involved five people who were in the woods on a camp out when trees fell, leaving them injured and stranded.

Grade 12 Trip to Algonquin 2019
At the beginning of every year, our Grade 12 students challenge themselves while exploring the beautiful wilderness of Ontario on a four-day canoe trip in Algonquin Park.

Fridays For Future | Lakefield Environmental Action Force
On Friday, September 27, the halls came alive as the student body made their way to The Grove to rally. Inspired by Greta Thunberg and her global influence, the student leadership class, along with the LEAF environmental club, created and presented five initiatives to work towards during the year.

Closing Ceremonies 2019
On June 15 we celebrated the 140th Closing Ceremonies at Lakefield College School. From the traditional grad jumps into Lake Katchewanooka after their final exams, the Grad vs Staff slo-pitch game, to the awards under the tent, the all-school photo at the waterfront, to the Closing Chapel service that was filled with joy and tears, Closing Week was full of emotion.

Regatta Day 2019
Each year, Regatta Day is an event that everyone looks forward to - it’s a celebration of springtime, the outdoors and our beautiful campus. Our entire LCS community is invited to enjoy a day full of exciting activities and waterfront fun. On May 2019, HRH the Duke of York attended Regatta Day along with 36 former Head Students and 700 guests.

Winter Athletics at The Grove 2019
Lakefield College School offers a variety of sporting activities for students to practice and compete in. Some of the Winter sports students can enjoy include Alpine Skiing, Hockey, Nordic skiing, and Snowboard Racing.

March Break Trip to Peru 2019
Over the March Break, 10 students and two staff members travelled to Peru for a spirituality and service experience as part of our Global Learning program. We were eager to see what Peru had in store for us, and we were excited to experience a relaxing and restorative adventure.

Learning the Law Through a Mock Trial
The LCS Law class brought their Criminal Law unit to life when they participated in their Mock Trials. Students took on the role of Lawyers, Witnesses, Court Clerks and Jury Members. Each student had the opportunity to research, prepare and argue a case from either the Crown or Defence.

Celebrating Earth Day 2019
The LCS community celebrated Earth Day by spending time outside, planting a pollinator garden, and taking care of the community garden.

Pride Week at LCS
LCS celebrated Pride Week to show their support to the LGBTQ+ community. Students designed and sold Pride t-shirts and donated all proceeds to the LGBTQ+ Shelter for the Youth in Peterborough.

"This is Now" Dance Showcase
The Lakefield College School Dance Company's annual Dance Showcase, entitled "This is Now" took place in the Bryan Jones Theatre on February 27, 28 and March 1, 2019. The show is an original, creatively choreographed event showcasing the talents of the student dance team.

Building the LCS Snowboard Park
Students and staff at LCS worked to create a snowboard park to enjoy in the winter months and add a fun challenge to one of our students' favourite outdoor activities.

March 2019 Intersession Day: Spoken Word Poetry
On Intersession Day in March 2019, students took part in a spoken word poetry circle. Students practiced reading poems with conviction and emotion to convey the meaning of the work they selected.

Mock Crime Scene
Ms. Hansler’s Grade 12 Law class participated in a mock crime scene activity where they lifted fingerprints, measured and sketched the crime scene, collected hair and fibre samples, and analyzed their findings to hypothesize what events took place.

1st Nordic Skiing CISAA Championships
Lakefield College School students attended the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) for Nordic skiing in 2019.

Chinese Food and Culture Festival 2019
The Chinese Food and Culture Festival began with a traditional dumpling-making workshop in the OE Kitchen. Thirty students participated, making somewhere between 600 and 800 dumplings which were enjoyed at dinner. It is safe to say that the 2019 Festival was a tremendous success, and we look forward to next year!

LEAF (Lakefield Environmental Action Force) is a long standing club at LCS that focuses on environmental stewardship. Through student led and run initiatives, LEAF works to make our LCS community better and the Village of Lakefield better.

Ted Pope Day 2019
Ted Pope attended the Grove from 1939-1942. He loved the thrill of adventure, and he found it skiing, mountain climbing, and car racing. The tradition of taking the whole school skiing for a day started in 1970 and has continued for 25 years in his honour.

From far down the hall you can hear a pulsing beat and laughter, the first indication that something is happening in Upper Hadden Hall. This is the Boyz Dance Club and it's led by Jimmy Chapman of NRG Breakdancing.

The LCS Jack Chapter exists to educate and enrich the LCS community through student-led initiatives that foster happiness and physical and mental wellbeing.

24-Hour Performing Arts Project
LCS students participate in the 24-hour Performing Arts Project where they have 24 hours to write, direct, act, sing, and perform a dramatic piece. After 24 hours of preparation, students perform their act for the entire school!

For intersession day in December 2018, female students had the opportunity to take part in an all-girls coding project. Students learned basic coding techniques and practiced their skills using exercises and games.

Crisis Management Simulation in Outdoor Education
The Crisis Management Simulation has been an integral part of the Grade 12 Outdoor Education experience at Lakefield College School for almost 20 years. Combining amazing make-up, a story that involves multiple injured persons, an amazing outdoor wooded campus and usually a wet and cool late November day, the stage has always been set for an impactful and meaningful experience.

Día de los Muertos | The Day of the Dead 2018
El Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) is an important cultural celebration held on November 1 and 2 in many parts of Mexico and many other Central American countries. It is a day of remembrance for loved ones who have passed away. In keeping with Mexican tradition, the students visited Lakefield's Hillside Cemetery and paid respects to and laid flowers on the graves of important, deceased members of the Grove community.

Maple Harvest at LCS
Harvesting sap from maple trees to produce maple syrup has deep roots not only in Canadian history but also at The Grove (Lakefield College School). For LCS students, maple harvesting presents an experience they simply can’t get anywhere else. History teachers use it as a doorway to the past. Science teachers can show principles in action. Business teachers can illustrate a full-scale operation from production to finished product.
