Community Service

The educational philosophy at Lakefield is firmly grounded in the belief that students should be actively involved in, and concerned with, life in the school itself and in the community at large. Daily chapel services reinforce this philosophy. We believe that the service experience will be satisfying to the extent that helping others becomes a way of life. In addition, universities and employers are increasingly interested in an applicant's involvement in service activities. The service programs provide opportunities for students to help out community members and learn more about themselves and their peers.

Students at Lakefield College School have an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of community service projects, providing assistance to individuals, to the school community, to the broader Peterborough-Lakefield area, and to national and global organizations.

At the individual level, our students may visit with senior citizens at a local retirement home, participate in charity events such as the Run for the Cure, or they may help prepare and serve a meal at a homeless shelter. 

Within the LCS community, students may help with special events such as Fall Fair or Regatta Day; work as timekeepers or hosts at athletic tournaments; or act as peer tutors. Many senior students initiate their own community service activities, perhaps organizing blood clinics or planning coffee houses to raise money for a particular local or global organization.

Many local, national and global organizations approach the school to request assistance with special projects or fundraising, and LCS students readily participate in these activities as well. Over the years students have participated in Habitat for Humanity builds, they have travelled on Round Square Conferences and other service expeditions to learn and serve their greater community.  In all, there are dozens of service activities each year, which students can choose to participate in.

All service performed at the school is counted towards the 40 hours of community service required of secondary school students by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Lakefield College School is a private, coeducational boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12, located in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada.

We respectfully acknowledge that Lakefield College School is located on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and in the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Nations, collectively known as the Williams Treaties First Nations, which include: Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Alderville, Scugog Island, Rama, Beausoleil, and Georgina Island First Nations.
