The election for the Co-Head Students of the 2023/24 year has come to a close, and we are thrilled to announce that Jane Orr ’24 and Luke Newbigging ’24 have been elected by their peers and staff. Congratulations to both of them! They are both incredibly excited to take on the responsibility of leading the student body next year, and we have no doubt that they will do an exceptional job.
About Jane ’24
Jane ’24 joined the LCS community in 2020 after realizing she wanted a fresh start. She had been at the same school for eight years and was ready to meet new people, explore a new environment, and discover new interests.
“I took a leap of faith and way past the deadline, I applied to LCS for Grade 9 and I was accepted. It was spontaneous and risky and the best decision I ever made. So who am I now? I’m a 16-year-old girl originally from Toronto, who’s lived in Barbados and the Bahamas but I’ve called Lakefield home for the last three years.”
Since her arrival, Jane has become fully engaged with the LCS community; game nights with her house, impromptu hallway conversations, and new adventures fuel her every day.
About Luke ’24
“Through the Seed to Table class, I developed a deep connection to the LCS community and our amazing campus,” says Luke.
After completing the course and becoming immersed in school life, Luke decided he wanted to continue developing his love for The Grove by running for the Grade 10 Grade Representative role. “Taking on a leadership role allowed me to meet more people while organizing fun events for our grade and working with staff to represent our grade's best interests.”
“These experiences taught me so much about leadership. I learned that leading by example, actively listening, and learning from others are invaluable traits for effective leadership. I am invested in The Grove. It is my hope to guide our
community, encouraging people to come together and create our own transformative experiences, thereby creating a lasting Grove connection.”
We would also like to extend our congratulations to each of the six nominated candidates.
Gabi ’24, Ashley ’24, Will ’24, and Nathan ’24 are all to be commended for their service to the school, and we are proud of their commitment to leadership. We are excited to see the entire Class of 2024 step up and lead next year.
