As part of their ongoing exploration of Stewardship in the Leadership, Character, Values Program (LCV), our Grade 10 students continued a cherished tradition by taking part in the annual Lakefield Santa Claus Parade. They began planning for the parade during our
October Intersession, during which, they established a theme and a plan to guide their participation.
Dedicated to embodying the principles of responsible leadership, the Grade 10 cohort poured their creativity into crafting vibrant floats, bringing festive cheer to the parade held this past Sunday, November 19. With enthusiasm and a sense of community spirit, our students marched alongside their floats, which featured the theme: “Joy from All Around the World". They chose this theme based on their shared goal of representing Lakefield's value of 'Joy', celebrating the diversity of our student body, and making the parade more inclusive of the many holidays our students celebrate around the world.
Our Grade 10s were also keen to embody the school's Environmental Stewardship value by repurposing the paper mache eggs made for last year's musical performance:
Something Rotten!Roughly 70 students volunteered to bring these ideas to fruition. From designing banners to preparing the float, painting, making bracelets, and more, there were many ways for our teens to be involved.
This annual tradition not only showcases the students' commitment to embracing stewardship but also highlights their dedication to engaging with the local Lakefield community. It's a testament to their growing understanding of leadership and their willingness to actively contribute to the festive celebrations that bring joy to the town.
The Grade 10 class' involvement in the Santa Claus parade reflects LCS's ongoing mission to instill values of service, community engagement, and responsible leadership within its student body. The school takes pride in fostering a culture of active participation and stewardship, guiding students to become impactful contributors to their communities.
Their hard work paid off as they won 1st prize in the non-commercial float category and were featured on the front page of the Katchewanooka Herald newspaper!
The parade offered a wonderful opportunity for the students to express their creativity, teamwork, and commitment to service while connecting with members of the local community.
