Celebrating 40 Years of Round Square at LCS: A Journey of Connection and Growth
Last Friday, our Lakefield College School Round Square delegates returned home from an unforgettable experience in Colombia, marking a significant milestone in LCS’s history with Round Square. Lakefield College School students have been participating in Round Square initiatives and conferences for a long time. In fact, this year marks the 40th anniversary of when The Grove had the unique privilege of hosting the 1985 Round Square Conference.
The 2024 conference, held in Boyacá, Colombia, was filled with learning, cultural exchange, and personal growth. One of the highlights for our students was participating in an impromptu dance class led by local students on the veranda of their hotel in Paipa. The energy was contagious as students from around the world came together to experience Colombian culture in a fun, hands-on way, ending their day with laughter and joy.
As the conference came to a close, the emotional goodbyes between our students and their baraza groups stood out as one of the most touching moments. The bonds they formed in such a short time are a testament to the power of the Round Square experience.
On their final night, students spent time with their host families, reflecting on their journey before starting the long trip back to Bogota and then home.
Throughout the conference, our students pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, embraced every opportunity, and made memories they will carry with them for life. We are so proud to have shared this journey with them, and we look forward to seeing how they carry these lessons and experiences forward.
