On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, AP Physics students competed in a one-day engineering challenge at the Healthy Planet arena in Peterborough. Working in teams of four, this year's challenge was to design and construct a bridge out of popsicle sticks, glue, tape, wooden dowels, and other provided materials.
The competition was fierce as teams battled to build a bridge that could not only support the weight of a toy car but also withstand the largest force possible. And it wasn't just about building a strong bridge; teams also had to submit a written report that detailed their design and included solutions to torque and static equilibrium questions.

In the end, one team emerged victorious. Congratulations to Devon Hansen ’23, Alper Gol ’23, Amrit Garcha ’23, and Vincent ’23 for finishing first overall in the competition. Their bridge withstood a force of 30.2 lbs before breaking, the most of any group in the competition.
