This week, Lakefield College School proudly introduced its new outdoor basketball court, a welcomed addition to the campus’s expanding recreational and athletic facilities. Officially unveiled by the SICs of athletics (Jud ’25, Annalise ’25, Tristan ’25 Gray ’25, Sam ’25, Oliver ’25, Sydney ’25, Kaydn ’25, Ryan ’25, and Odinn ’25), the court hosted its inaugural game with the graduating class, who celebrated the occasion with a lively round of the popular game, bump.
This court, located in the courtyard outside Lower Hadden Hall, comes as part of the school’s ongoing campus improvement initiatives. With the construction of the new community hall underway, the old basketball court had to be removed, leaving a need for a space where students could continue to enjoy outdoor sports. The new location in the courtyard breathes life into a previously underutilized but picturesque area at the heart of the campus.
The multi-purpose court boasts an acrylic top surface and is marked for basketball, badminton, and pickleball, making it a versatile venue for both recreational and competitive sports. The hope is to introduce a recreational basketball league, host 3-on-3 tournaments, and expand intramural sports opportunities for students.
For the school’s competitive basketball teams, the new court provides much-needed practice space. With four to five teams regularly competing for gym time after school, this addition allows athletes to further develop their skills in a fresh outdoor setting.
This new space is just one of many improvements enhancing the LCS experience, with much more to come in the months ahead. For now, the court stands as a testament to Lakefield’s commitment to creating vibrant, active spaces for students to connect, compete, and grow.
