LCS Aviation Club Explores the Skies at Peterborough Airport

Seven enthusiastic members of Lakefield College School’s Aviation Club—Ray ’27, Khalid ’27, Iliyan ’25, AJ ’25, Eason ’25, Nikhil ’28, and Harshan ’27—recently took to the skies (metaphorically) during an educational visit to the Peterborough Airport. The group enjoyed a tour of the Flying Club’s classroom and maintenance hangar, gaining a firsthand look at the hub of local aviation activity.

The experience was elevated with an exclusive guided tour led by a Seneca Aviation flight instructor. The students explored Seneca Polytechnic’s aviation facilities, including classrooms, flight briefing rooms, a spacious hangar filled with aircraft, and state-of-the-art flight simulators.

For many, the highlight of the day was testing their skills in the Crosswind Simulator. This cutting-edge technology helps pilots build muscle memory and refine control techniques for maintaining directional stability in challenging, windy conditions. It was a thrilling opportunity for the students to put themselves in a pilot’s shoes and experience the intricacies of flight training.

The visit offered our students an in-depth look behind the scenes of professional flight training. The Seneca School of Aviation tour exposed them to core training principles such as good airmanship and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which are essential for maintaining safety and excellence in the aviation industry.

The LCS Aviation Club is eager for more authentic learning experiences and adventures as they continue their journey into the fascinating world of flight.
