Lakefield College School Physics students recently showcased their exceptional talent and knowledge in the field of physics by participating in the Ontario Association of Physics Teachers (OAPT) Grade 11 Contest. On Wednesday, May 24, 10 dedicated LCS students took on the challenge of this rigorous examination, which consisted of 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed within 60 minutes. The contest drew the participation of 798 students across Ontario, all currently enrolled in Grade 11 or Grade 12 Physics courses.
In the Grade 11 division, LCS students exhibited their outstanding performance, securing top scores that placed them among the elite participants. Hansen Chen '25 emerged as a standout, achieving an impressive percentile rank of 95. Evelyn Chen '25 closely followed, attaining an exceptional percentile rank of 91, while David Li '25 showcased his proficiency with an impressive percentile rank of 82. Their exceptional results serve as a testament to their dedication and depth of understanding in physics.
In the Grade 12 division, which featured 139 exam writers, Jacobo De Juan Millon '23 soared to great heights, claiming the top position with a remarkable score of 135 out of a possible 150. Jacobo's achievement is truly extraordinary, as he not only secured first place among all LCS participants but also tied for the highest score in the entire contest. With only one other student attaining the same score, Jacobo's remarkable performance sets an unprecedented milestone for LCS. His dedication and commitment to academic excellence have paved the way for this remarkable feat.
The success of LCS students in the OAPT Physics Contest is a testament to their tireless efforts, unwavering determination, and exceptional academic abilities. We applaud each student who embraced the challenge and put their knowledge and skills to the test. Congratulations are in order for Jacob Jiang ’24, Eason Ong ’25, Thomas ’24, Tom ’24, Yukun Xie ’25, and Daisy Zhong '25 for their participation in this demanding competition. Their willingness to take on such an extreme challenge speaks volumes about their passion for physics and their commitment to continuous growth and learning.
