On September 17, under the light of the harvest moon, our students came together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Also known as the Moon Festival, this event is an important tradition in the Chinese lunisolar calendar, with a history that stretches back over 3,000 years. Rooted in the legend of the Moon Goddess Chang'e, the festival is celebrated across many cultures and countries—and this year, our students brought its spirit to the LCS community.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time to come together, enjoy delicious food, give thanks for the harvest, and appreciate the beauty of the full moon. After evening study, students gathered by the waterfront, where the scent of mooncakes, the glow of lanterns, and the sound of music set the perfect scene to celebrate with friends. Those who grew up celebrating the festival shared stories about its meaning, and conversations about family, culture, and tradition filled the air as mooncakes were passed around.
Throughout the year, our International Club and Seniors in Charge (SICs) of International Student Affairs will continue working closely with students to honour traditions and festivals from around the world, creating even more opportunities for us to learn from one another.
