On January 25, our students took part in a variety of activities to acknowledge Bell Let's Talk Day. The day, which aims to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health, was an opportunity for students to engage in discussions about mental health and wellbeing.
Throughout the day, students completed Bell Let's Talk speech bubbles that highlighted what mental health means to them and how they take care of their mental health. This provided a platform for students to express their thoughts and feelings on the topic and open up a dialogue with their peers.
Speech bubble highlights:
Mental health is a priority
Spend quality time with your friends
Try to do nice things for other people
There is always a light at the end of the tunnel
Make time to do what you love
Talk to a trusted adult
In addition, students visited the resource table set up by the Seniors in Charge (SICs) of the Wellbeing Centre, Dakota ’23 and Bradley ’23, outside the Student Life Centre. Here, they had the opportunity to learn more about mental health and the resources available to them.
To promote relaxation and mindfulness, students also coloured mandala colouring pages and completed puzzles in the Learning Commons (thanks to Ms. Maher). These activities provided a chance for students to take a break and practice being present.
On Monday, students also listened to a presentation about mental health in Chapel and watched a video from Time to Change Wales. The presentation helped students to understand the importance of mental health and the resources available to them, and the video from Time to Change Wales further highlighted the need for mental health awareness and support.
Overall, Bell Let's Talk Day at Lakefield College School was a meaningful experience for students to learn more about mental health and the resources available to them. It was a great way to start a conversation about mental health and to promote awareness and understanding of the topic.
