Soaring to New Heights: LCS Drone Program Takes Flight

We are pleased to share that Lakefield College School has recently launched its new drone program, thanks to the generous support of Alexandre Parent '15. This new program was added to our roster of Spring Term co-curricular programs.

The Drone Program began in late April 2023 with ground school training to ensure students were familiar with Transport Canada's knowledge requirements.

With good weather on their side, students were able to test their skills in drone crew management, rotating roles from pilot in command to visual observer to mission briefing. The program operates under the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), ensuring that all flight missions are conducted in compliance with the law.

Through frequent outings, students have had the opportunity to sharpen their briefing and checklist usage as well as their piloting skills. Two students have already passed their Transport Canada exams—Abdul ’23 with a Basic Certificate and Linus ’24 with an Advanced Certificate.

In addition to the training and exam preparation, students have also been assembling a quadcopter drone kit, which has sparked enthusiasm and excitement amongst the student body.

Flight trials are set to begin in early May, and our students are eager to see what they can achieve with their newly acquired skills and knowledge. The LCS Drone Program is a fantastic addition to the school's offerings and will undoubtedly benefit students interested in pursuing a career in aviation or related fields.

Thank you to Mr. Eshikaty for sharing his passion for aviation with our students.
