LCS Hosts 2024 OFSAA Ultimate Festival

Last week, Lakefield College School had the honour of hosting 16 teams, including our own 1st Ultimate team, for the 2024 OFSAA Ultimate Festival. This exciting two-day event brought together the champions of athletic associations from across the province for a spirited tournament.

The festival kicked off with a pool play on May 30, where teams showcased their skills and competitive spirit. Following a full day of games, LCS hosted a waterfront BBQ (OFSAA Banquet) on campus for all teams. The evening was filled with fun games, camaraderie, and the presentation of a Leadership in Sport award, highlighting the importance of sportsmanship and leadership in the game.

On the second day, teams battled it out in the Championship and Consolation brackets to determine the provincial champion. Our LCS team played gritty and disciplined Ultimate in challenging pool play matchups against Adam Scott CI (defending champions), Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School (who went on to finish 2nd), and Clarkson Secondary School (who finished 4th overall). Despite the tough competition, our players demonstrated remarkable effort and sportsmanship.

In the Consolation bracket on May 31, LCS continued to impress but ultimately came up short against skilled teams from Brantford Collegiate Institute and Georgetown High School. A notable highlight for our team was finishing in 2nd place in Spirit scores. These scores are awarded by opponents based on sportsmanship, rule knowledge, communication, and other factors crucial to this self-refereed sport.

Head Coach Todd Melville congratulates all the LCS players not only for their outstanding performance and effort but also for being exceptional hosts. The team's discipline, intensity, and good spirit throughout the tournament truly embodied the values of Lakefield College School.

We are incredibly proud of our players for their hard work and dedication, both on and off the field. Hosting the OFSAA Ultimate Festival was a memorable experience that showcased the strength and unity of our community.
