1st Boys Soccer Team Kicks Off Season with Three Consecutive Wins
Written by: Mr. Exton and Ms. Thalen
Our 1st Boys’ Soccer team opened their season with a dominant performance against Ridley College at The Grove on Saturday, September 22. Lakefield players controlled the game, maintaining possession in the midfield and using a solid defensive shape to limit Ridley’s chances of a goal. Jack ’26 opened the scoring after a driving run by Eduard ’26 broke through the Ridley defence. Captain Jesse ’25 doubled the lead with a well-placed shot off the inside of the post, capitalizing on a long pass from Carl ’25. Hirotaka ’25 added a third goal, and his clever flick to an advancing Fernando ’25 sealed a convincing 4-0 win for LCS.
Carrying this momentum into their away match against RSGC in Toronto on Monday, September 23, LCS defended resiliently in a tightly contested game. Eduard ’26 broke the deadlock in the second half, stripping his defender of the ball and following up on his own rebound to put LCS ahead. Goalkeeper Tristan ’25 preserved the 1-0 victory with a brilliant diving save in the final minutes, denying the RSGC winger in a one-on-one situation. Strong performances from the backline—Griffin ’26, Emanuel ’25, August ’27, and captain Ryan ’25—were crucial in securing back-to-back clean sheets.
Wrapping up their third game in five days, LCS hosted Greenwood College on Wednesday, September 25. A brace from Eduard ’26 and goals from Jack ’26 and Jesse ’25 gave LCS a commanding 4-0 lead. Despite a spirited comeback from Greenwood in the second half, LCS held on for a 4-2 victory.
The team’s impressive start to the season continues with an away match at Crestwood Preparatory College next Wednesday.
