On October 25, Lakefield College School proudly played host (for the second year in a row) to one of the most anticipated Cross Country Running (XCR) events in the school year – the CISAA Cross Country Championships! With more than 600 athletes from various schools participating, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and energy.
Nineteen LCS runners took to the race course, showcasing their determination and spirit. Under the guidance of Coaches Mr. Harris, Mr. Gilfillan, Mr. Rollwagen, and Mr. Vreugdenhil-Beauclerc, our athletes displayed exceptional skill and resilience, navigating a tough field of competitors.
Coach Harris reflected on the competition, saying, "It was a tough, tough field, but we do have three athletes that may have qualified individually for OFSAA XCR 2023: Grace ’27, Isabel ’27, and Millie ’24, depending on the results of the Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association (TDCAA) XCR Championships today." Their potential qualification for OFSAA XCR 2023 speaks volumes about the hard work our students have put into their training.
In team standings, our Novice Girls demonstrated their prowess, securing a commendable 5th place. The Junior Girls team followed suit, finishing in 7th place, while our Senior Boys showcased their determination, securing an impressive 8th place.
The event not only highlighted the outstanding athletic abilities of our students but also showcased the spirit of sportspersonship and camaraderie that defines LCS.
We congratulate all runners who competed for their hard work and dedication, and we eagerly await the results of the TDCAA Championships to see if Grace ’27, Isabel ’27, and Millie ’24 will represent LCS at OFSAA XCR 2023.
Go, LCS runners!
