"I believe that authentic leadership is impactful leadership, grounded in creating genuine spaces for people to share their stories." — Nouman Ashraf
We recently welcomed
Associate Professor Nouman Ashraf from the Rotman School of Management, as part of our ongoing commitment to being an
Inclusive, Caring, Community. Nouman, known for his expertise in organizational behaviour, shared valuable insights on inclusive leadership, resonating with our faculty, staff, and students.
Emphasizing Authentic Leadership
An expert in enabling inclusive practices, Ashraf emphasized the importance of authentic leadership in achieving impactful outcomes. He encouraged the creation of open spaces for individuals to share their stories, emphasizing the amplification of diverse voices within the community.
Engaging with the Campus Community
Nouman's visit went beyond academic discussions as he actively engaged with various groups within our campus community. Meetings with faculty and staff, discussions with students from World Issues and Community & Connect classes, participation in the Head of House meeting, and valuable interactions with PALs, Directors, and the Leadership Team were integral parts of his visit. When thinking about current issues facing our global community, he encouraged our World Issues students to, "Start with what you have to create a more just and equitable society....support local businesses who pay their people well, where you can make small changes, welcome them and make them.”
Ashraf also spoke about the importance of aligning our goals with our values and our actions, beginning with the individual, and our day-to-day interactions.
Inspirational Impact
Nouman's visit has sparked inspiration across our campus, fostering a deepened commitment to inclusivity and a deeper understanding of the impact of unconscious biases. As we reflect on his insightful teachings, our community looks forward to practising these valuable lessons during our day-to-day interactions with others.
Thank you to Professor Nouman Ashraf for sharing his expertise and contributing to our collective pursuit of authentic and inclusive leadership!
