LEAF Club Visits Wanderlight Alpaca Farm: A Fun and Educational Year-End Adventure

As the 2023/24 school year draws to a close, students in the LEAF (Lakefield Environmental Action Force) club wrapped up their activities with a memorable visit to Wanderlight Alpaca Farm. This engaging experience provided a unique blend of education and hands-on fun, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for sustainability and regenerative agriculture.

The day began with an informative session led by Katie, the owner of Wanderlight. Katie introduced the students to camelids, explaining how alpacas fit into sustainable agriculture and highlighting the important concept of kinship. She emphasized how all living things on the farm are interconnected, demonstrating the delicate balance of nature.

Students had the opportunity to handle alpaca fur, learning about the benefits of sustainable fibres. This practical experience allowed them to understand the significance of sustainable materials and their impact on the environment.

The highlight of the visit was a walk with the alpacas! Students enjoyed getting to know the distinct personalities of these gentle creatures. The walk not only provided entertainment but also reinforced lessons about sustainability and the interconnectedness of life on the farm.

This trip was a fantastic way to end the school year, combining education with fun and giving students a tangible connection to the principles of sustainability and regenerative agriculture.

A big thank you to Katie and Wanderlight Alpaca Farm for hosting our students and providing such an enriching experience. Congratulations to the LEAF club for a successful year of environmental action and learning!
