Biking for a Cause: The 2024 Jack Ride at Lakefield College School
The Jack Ride is Canada’s premier event for youth mental health, held each spring to support thousands of young leaders dedicated to improving youth mental health across the country. This year, the official ride took place in Caledon, Ontario, with many satellite rides happening nationwide. Funds raised from the event will support the vital work of Jack.org.
Lakefield College School has proudly supported Jack.org for several years, maintaining an active “Jack Chapter” on campus. On June 1, our students participated in the Jack Ride as members of “Brent’s Team.” Brent Dadds, Class of 2020, sadly passed away in the spring of 2021. He was a pioneering member of Lakefield’s Jack Chapter, making it an honour for our school community to participate in the Jack Ride in his memory.
The student ride featured an inter-house relay competition using the THRIVE house bikes. Each house provided riders aiming to complete as many laps of the campus as possible within one hour. Congratulations to Cooper House for riding the greatest distance and Rashleigh House for having the highest participation! Each house was rewarded with a tub of ice cream and cones, generously donated by Central Smith Creamery and alumna Jillian Scates ’13.
It was a beautiful day filled with a tremendous sense of community spirit as we rode together for a great cause. This THRIVE-sponsored initiative not only got students outdoors and active but also fostered connections and contributed to the well-being of everyone involved.
