Recap of the Transformative Summer AI Institute at LCS!

Lakefield College School was thrilled to host a two-day Summer AI Institute from July 21 to July 23. This event brought together 50 educators from 20 Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) to explore the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence in education.

Facilitated by the esteemed Eric Hudson—Designer, Facilitator, and Strategic Advisor—the institute provided a collaborative space for school teams to develop effective AI practices and guidelines. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities, all aimed at harnessing AI for the maximum benefit of student learning.

We were eager to hear from leaders at AppDirect and EngineeredARTs, including a special presentation featuring AMECA, an advanced humanoid robot. These insights, combined with the passion and commitment of all attendees, made the event truly inspiring.

Highlights of the event included:
  • Constructing Guidelines and Policies: Attendees worked together to create comprehensive AI guidelines to ensure the responsible and effective integration of AI in their schools.
  • Collaborative Networking: Educators and administrators connected with colleagues from other institutions, building networks to support ongoing AI initiatives.
  • Exploring Current AI Applications: Participants shared their experiences with piloted AI programs, discussing successes and challenges to shape future directions.
  • Learning from Experts: CAIS Executive Director Anand Mahadevan, along with collaborators Alanna Wellwood, Garth Nichols, and Jim Laplante presented their newly developed AI maturity model, offering schools a strategic roadmap for AI integration.
A special thank you to Joe McRae, Heather Adams, Beth Nichols, Amit Chopra, and Dean Van Doleweerd for their exceptional leadership in making this event possible. The Summer AI Institute was a resounding success, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to lead the way in educational innovation.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these new AI initiatives in the coming school year and beyond.
