LCS Students Enjoy a Fun-Filled Thanksgiving Break: From Campus Adventures to Ottawa Exploration

This Thanksgiving Break, Lakefield College School offered students the chance to experience a memorable holiday through two options: an on-campus staycation packed with Canadian traditions and a trip to Ottawa, one of Canada’s most historic cities.

For students who stayed on campus, the Thanksgiving Staycation was filled with activities that showcased the beauty of the season. On Thursday night, students and staff (including Head of School Anne-Marie Kee) gathered on campus for a rare and spectacular sighting of the Northern Lights—a breathtaking start to their holiday. Friday brought thrills at Canada’s Wonderland’s Halloween Haunt, followed by a return to Northcote Farm, where students harvested vegetables to help prepare a special Thanksgiving dinner.

Saturday allowed students to be a part of the record-breaking number of attendees at the Norwood Fair, an event celebrating rural Canadian life. In the evening, students worked together to prepare delicious side dishes that complemented a spectacular turkey dinner prepared by Chef Evan Podd. The weekend wrapped up with a trip to Toronto, where they enjoyed a shopping spree and shared a delicious meal—a fitting end to a weekend full of friendship and fun.

Meanwhile, another group of 48 LCS students took their break to the nation’s capital, Ottawa. Their adventure began at Canada’s Wonderland’s Halloween Haunt before they headed east to explore all that Ottawa offers. From the lively dinner show Oh Canada Eh! to racing at Top Karting, students experienced a mix of entertainment and culture. They visited the Canadian Museum of Aviation and the National Gallery, immersing themselves in Canada’s rich history and art. The Byward Market offered a culinary tour, where students sampled a variety of international cuisines, and a unique Amphibus tour gave them a chance to explore Ottawa by both land and water.

The trip also featured time for shopping at the Rideau Centre and an exciting opportunity to cheer on the Ottawa Senators in live NHL action—an experience that brought out everyone’s team spirit.

Both the Thanksgiving Staycation and the Ottawa trip provided students with a perfect balance of adventure, culture, and camaraderie. Whether on campus or exploring Canada’s capital, LCS students had the chance to create lasting memories with their friends.
