K-Rod Showdown

By Tara Piggot ’17

Although Friday, February 3 was a freezing night, that didn’t stop the LCS students from having a night of fun in the snow. Everyone gathered on Matthews Field for the school’s annual K-Rod race. K-Rod consists of “human dog sledding” races, based on the Iditarod (the annual 1049 mile long sled dog race across Alaska).

In our version, one person sits in a toboggan while being pulled by 6 other students running holding onto the rope.  These races are for paper house points, and all four paper houses participated with enthusiasm.

The winners of each races were;
Distance Race - Pullen
Slalom Race - Mackenzie
Spring Race - Lefevre

At the end of the night Pullen finished in first place (280 points), Lefevre in second (260 points) and tied for third was Sheldrake and Mackenzie (240 points).

The students who did not participate, watched and cheered on their peers, while keeping themselves warm with hot chocolate and enjoying cookies and hot dogs. Even though teeth were chattering, smiles were on everyone’s face on the field. The night ended with beautiful fireworks, which left everyone mesmerized. Overall, it was an amazing night to come together and participate in an ongoing school tradition!
