Friday Night Lights | October 2024

The Grove was buzzing with energy and excitement as we hosted our annual Friday Night Lights event on October 18. Students, parents, and community members gathered under the lights for an evening of spirited competition, camaraderie, and celebration of sport.

The evening kicked off with a stirring rendition of the national anthem, performed by Miciah ’25, setting the tone for a night filled with thrilling moments. Jud ’25 kept the atmosphere lively, taking on DJ and announcing duties, while Mr. Judson (former radio and TV personality) introduced our home team athletes in front of a cheering crowd.

Boys’ Soccer Shines Under the Lights
In the opening match, the 1st Boys Soccer team took on the Peterborough Club U17/18 team, securing an impressive 3-1 victory. Titus ’25 led the charge with two goals, showcasing his offensive skills, while Jesse ’25 added another to secure the win. The team displayed exceptional teamwork and resilience, giving the fans plenty to cheer about.

The boys were back on the field later in the evening for a tightly contested match against Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute (CVI). Despite a hard-fought effort, the team faced a narrow loss, with Kenner CVI proving to be a tough opponent.

Girls’ Basketball: A Memorable Match-Up
One of the evening’s highlights was the 1st Girls’ Basketball game against Kenner CVI, which ended with a commanding win for Lakefield. Annalise ’25 led the team, scoring an impressive 21 points, demonstrating her skill and determination on the court. Adding to the excitement was the rare opportunity for Faith ’28 to play against her sister, who was representing Kenner—a special moment made possible by the unique crossover between leagues.

The game’s halftime featured a competitive bump game, drawing enthusiastic participation from the crowd and adding a touch of fun and friendly rivalry to the evening.

Boys’ Volleyball Battles Kenner CVI
The 1st Boys’ Volleyball team faced Kenner CVI in a series of closely contested sets. Although Lakefield ultimately fell 3-0, the team displayed determination and skill, with standout performances from Odinn ’25, who capitalized on several spiking opportunities. The boys’ front row executed some impressive blocks throughout the game, earning well-deserved recognition from the crowd.

Community Connections and Lasting Memories
One of the most remarkable aspects of Friday Night Lights was the opportunity for the Kenner CVI teams to stay and participate in all the evening’s games, bringing their home crowd to The Grove. This sense of community and mutual support is not often seen in the CISAA league, making the event even more special. It was a night that showcased how sports can create connections and build a sense of belonging that extends beyond competition.

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that Friday Night Lights had succeeded in bringing together students, families, and friends for a night of unforgettable experiences. With thrilling games, spirited fans, and moments of genuine connection, the event embodied the true spirit of sport at Lakefield College School.
