Sharing Skills & Building Connections on our Snowshoe Trails
Over lunch on January 16, AJ Cooper ’25 and Griff Dunkin ’25, Seniors in Charge (SIC) of Outdoor Education (OE), led a group of LCS staff members around the woodland trails on campus for an exciting snowshoeing activity, during their lunch hour.
Conceived by Libby Dalrymple, Director of THRIVE, the activity is part of a special initiative, designed to foster greater interaction and connection among members of the LCS support staff community while also exploring and enjoying the multitude of outdoor opportunities offered by the school campus.
Both AJ and Griff played an important leadership role in facilitating the activity, from helping staff members select the appropriate size of snowshoes and demonstrating how to use the equipment to leading them through the trails. The journey through the winter wilderness included a stop at a majestic maple tree, affectionately referred to as ‘mother maple’ and an off-trail exploration through deep snow.
Throughout the expedition, the duo shared intriguing insights into their roles as SICs, expressing the joy and fulfillment they've found in learning and sharing outdoor skills. As SICs of OE, they share their knowledge of outdoor skills built over their time at LCS like tying knots, cross-country skiing and constructing Quinzhees to name a few, and share it with the younger students.
Thank you to our Grade 12 SIC’s for making this activity a success!
