Let There Be Light | 2022 Grad Opening Chapel
On Wednesday, September 7, our Grads came together for their first formal event of the 2022/23 school year: Opening Grad Chapel.
Opening Grad Chapel is a longstanding tradition for our Grade 12 students and it serves as an opportunity for them to connect with each other in a peaceful environment and set intentions for the upcoming year.
This year’s Chapel took place in A.W. Mackenzie Chapel, marking the first indoor Opening Chapel ceremony in two years. Students enjoyed musical performances and an opening address from Ms. Kee, who spoke about the joys and responsibilities of being leaders in the school. The evening ended with the traditional candlelight ceremony, the light symbolizing the mantle of leadership handed down from last year’s Grads and tracing a continuous line from Grad Class to Grad Class.
It was a meaningful experience for our Grads—new and returning—and provided them with the chance to connect as a grade one more time before welcoming new students to campus the following day.
This week, our Grads have had lots of time to connect together and reconnect to campus, through braving the cool lake water with swim tests at the waterfront, eating together in the Dining Hall, unpacking their belongings in their residences, and welcoming our new and returning students to The Grove. We are so excited about the leadership and direction that the Class of 2023 will share with us and with their younger peers this year.
