Microscopes, Mitosis, and More | Grade 10 Science
This week in Grade 10 Science, our young scientists have been immersed in a world of discovery, conducting fascinating experiments, and delving into the intricacies of cellular biology.
Equipped with microscopes, our students had the opportunity to observe plant and cheek cells up close. Students also conducted an experiment on the impact of commonly used liquid substances on onion cell division. This hands-on experience provided real-world insights into the effects of various substances on living organisms.
But the exploration didn't stop there! To demonstrate animal cell division, known as mitosis, our creative students turned to a delicious and interactive experiment using Oreo cookies. This unique approach allowed them to witness the process in a fun and engaging way, making learning all the more enjoyable.
Beyond the experiments, our students also developed essential lab skills throughout the week. Learning how to prepare samples for biological analysis gave them a deeper understanding of the scientific process and equipped them with invaluable skills for future research.
And let's not forget the quintessential high school science experiment: a frog dissection lab! This hands-on activity allowed our students to explore the anatomy and physiology of these creatures, providing them with a real-world opportunity to see biological systems in an animal.
