This week, we welcomed the final group of
Grove Prep for Grade 9 students to our campus for five days of learning and summertime fun! These students were eager to find their way around the campus, develop their academic skills, and make new friends through afternoon recreational activities.
“I decided to take Grove Prep for Grade 9 so that I could get the genuine high school experience, meet new people, and get used to being in a high school environment.” - Jack, Grove Prep for Grade 9 Student
Our “Grove Preppers” spent their mornings brushing up on key concepts and skills that are integral to a successful Grade 9 year. They began the week with a scavenger hunt to find their bearings at our 315-acre campus, followed by a range of classes, including Introduction to 21st Century Skills, Wellness, English, Math, Science, Positive Psychology, Visual Arts, and Drama. From building lava lamps in Science class to learning the basics of Harkness discussions in English class, there were so many opportunities for interactive learning.
After a morning of engaging classes, students were keen to step outdoors into the warm summer weather.
“My favourite thing about the program is just being outside and swimming, sailing, playing volleyball, spikeball - it was just really fun.” - Simon, Grove Prep for Grade 9 Student
Afternoon activities offered plenty of opportunities for students to further explore LCS and become better acquainted with their peers. Our staff organized waterfront hang out sessions, canoeing excursions, hikes, afternoon swims, learning the basics of bee-keeping, and games, such as capture the flag, beach volleyball, bingo, manhunt, movie nights, and more. Although we’re sad to say farewell to our final group of Grove Prep students, we wish them all the best in the coming academic year!
