Lakefield College School Presents the World Film Premiere of “Goya 3 de mayo”
On Tuesday, the Spanish Embassy in partnership with Lakefield College School presented the world film premiere of ‘Goya 3 de mayo’.
Head of School and Foundation Anne-Marie Kee welcomed the Ambassador of Spain to Canada, H.E. Alfredo Martínez Serrano, and Professor Adrian Shubert (doctor of history) from York University’s department of history for the world premiere screening of the short film ‘Goya 3 de mayo’ at The Bryan Jones Theatre.
“It was an honour to host this event,” said Kee. “It was such a unique and rewarding cultural opportunity for our community to experience. As a school with nearly 400 students from more than 45 countries, we feel very lucky to have our own global community at Lakefield. We embrace opportunities, like this one, to learn more about the places and cultures from which our students join us.”
The short film uniquely retells the story of the world-famous painting, 'May 3 in Madrid,' by renowned Spanish painter, Francisco de Goya. Also known as 'The Executions', ‘May 3 in Madrid’ is considered to be one of the most obvious claims a painter has ever made against war. The film offers a rich cultural and historical perspective of the country that many LCS alumni and students call home.
Nearly 100 members of the LCS community attended the screening and enjoyed a lecture from doctor of history, Adrian Shubert, a historian of Spain in the 18th through 20th centuries, about the film’s origin, style, and meaning.
Thank you to everyone who attended this special event.
