The boys continue to stay focused and are determined to improve with each game through the season.

Junior Boys’ Soccer

Coaches: Isaac Eshikaty and Charlotte Jacklein

On Wednesday, October 6, the Junior Boys’ Soccer Team played Crestwood Prep for the third game of their season. Within minutes, both teams scored their opening goals and the fast pace continued throughout the game. LCS kept the ball moving smoothly and efficiently across the field, with good communication and a high level of energy. Striker Keifer Stevenson followed up his opening goal with two more great goals, for a brilliant hat trick. Philippe de Gaspesie Beaubien sprinted to score LCS's fourth goal with an assist from Ryan DaSilva, making the final score 4-3 for LCS. Congratulations to all players for a well-played match and on your first win of the season. Come cheer on the junior boys on Wednesday, October 13 as they play Pickering College at 3 pm.

Surrounded by beautiful fall colours and cheering spectators, the Junior Boys’ Soccer Team faced UCC on Saturday, October 2, on the Lefevre Field. This was the team's second game of the season, and the players showed good improvement in their communication, passing and teamwork. Thomas Chan made several spectacular corner kicks, which were smoothly headed into the net by Keifer Stevenson and Kareem El-Baradie for two well-deserved goals. The game remained tied 2-2 into the second half until UCC gained the lead with a penalty kick. LCS fought back hard, but the final score was 4-2 for UCC.

Bantam Boys’ Soccer

Coaches: Sheilagh Knight and Ian Armstrong

Under a lovely hot sun, October 6, LCS bantam boys heralded their first victory on the soccer field, 3-2, against St. Andrews of Aurora. In the first half, striker Jaron Kaller set the tone by scoring the first goal two minutes into the game. A powerful kick by forward Mike Mackenzie brought the score to 2-1, with some amazing kicks and passes by all team members. A nice set up by Daniel Zahradnik and assistance from Mike Mackenzie led to a closing goal by Jaron Kaller. Hard training and some awesome saves by goalie Max McEachern paved the way for today's victory. Well done, boys! You deserved to win!

Junior Girls’ Basketball

Coaches: Brent Hurley and Erin Shirreff

The LCS Junior Girls' Basketball Team played their second league game on Wednesday, October 6, against Crestwood Prep in the McEwen Gymnasium. Although they took a while to warm up, the girls quickly jumped out to a 10-2 lead. A determined defensive effort led by Emily Pigeau and Carolyn Dill helped keep the opposition off balance. Charlotte Desmarais dropped six points on her opponents, making a number of beautiful jump shots that would make Steve Nash proud. Much like Kobe Bryant in last year's NBA finals, Shannon Scrocchi dominated the opposition on both ends of the court, scoring 32 points and grabbing 18 rebounds, producing her finest performance of her still early LCS career. The final score of the game was 43-29 for The Grove. The girls will play their next game in Toronto against Bayview Glen on Wednesday, October 13. They are now undefeated in league play. Great game ladies!

Junior Girls’ Field Hockey

Coaches: Melissa Rathier and Robin Spears

The Junior Girls’ Field Hockey team hosted Villanova College last Wednesday, September 29. The evenly matched teams faced off on Matthews; both teams moving the ball well up the field and playing solid defence. Millie Yates, Jackie Orr and Laura Blair created a defensive wall that the opponent was challenged to get past. Jenna Vander Velden and Daisy O'Neill connected well on the midfield and controlled the play with great passes up to the forwards. Despite a few close opportunities, LCS could not get the ball past the Villanova goalie and suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss, on a picture perfect goal from VC. Overall it was impressive improvement over the game at Fall Fair. The team travels to Appleby after the long weekend to play on turf for the first time. This developing team is definitely one to watch as the season progresses.

1st Girls’ Field Hockey

Coaches: Amy Hollingsworth and Lianne Schumacher

It has been a busy couple of games for 1st Girls’ Field Hockey as they travelled to Ridley for their homecoming last Saturday and hosted Nichols School this past Wednesday. As in past games, the Ridley-LCS match-up proved to be a highly entertaining game for spectators as both teams brought their 'A' game to the pitch. With patient defense and strong attack LCS opened the scoring off a well-executed penalty corner hit that left a great rebound for Brooke Dunford to bury into the netting. LCS committed to the execution of the game plan that left Ridley scoreless until a 1:40 left in the game. A controversial goal saw the game tied, but the LCS girls battled back strongly and ended the game deep in Ridley territory - they just simply ran out of time. Solid team play and great mental toughness led to one of the best high school field hockey games Coach Hollingsworth has seen in a while!

Wednesday, the 1st Girls’ Field Hockey Team put in another solid effort against Nichols School. Nichols opened the scoring with an awesome shot from super star Shannon Matlin (who is headed off to Kent State University). Not to be out-played and discontented with the goal against, the LCS girls went back to work and quickly offered great counter attack. A hard hit off the penalty corner from Carlyn Hollingsworth left a juicy rebound and Lisa Krauss left no doubt that LCS was in the hunt putting the ball hard over the goal line. All tied up going into the second half the game opened up as both teams pressed hard on the attack and defended well. A solid second half by LCS goaltender Catherine Arseneau ensured the girls would come out with 2 points for their tie with a score. Congratulations! The hunt for the Final-4 continues!

Have a well deserved break and be game ready as we host Bishop Strachan School on Tuesday after the break.
