October Intersession: A Day of Growth, Giving, and Exploration

Our October Intersession saw LCS students dive into a range of activities designed to deepen their self-awareness, explore their academic and career interests, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. Each grade experienced unique opportunities tailored to support their personal development, resilience, and sense of community.

Grade 9: Strengthening Character and Leadership
Grade 9 students kicked off the day with a Character Strengths Workshop, where they identified their unique attributes and discussed how to harness them as they grow and develop. They also engaged in a fun, challenging Grade Rep Game, “Growth, Grit, and Gratitude,” which encouraged them to support each other as leaders, friends, and active members of our school community.

Grade 10: Inspiring Change and Protecting the Environment
Our Grade 10s enjoyed an inspiring session with guest speaker Peter Katz, who shared insights on resilience and personal growth. Later, students rolled up their sleeves for an environmental stewardship activity, taking steps to care for our natural surroundings while reflecting on their role as global citizens and guardians of the environment.

Grade 11: Building Hands and Building Community
In addition to hearing from Peter Katz, Grade 11 students embarked on a unique experience with Odyssey Teams’ Build-a-Hand workshop, assembling prosthetic hands for those in need worldwide. This activity was more than just team-building; it gave our students a chance to make a difference in others’ lives. Each student walked away with a deepened understanding of how empathy and citizenship can create meaningful global impact.

Grade 12: University Exploration and Planning Ahead
With university applications due in just three months, our Grade 12s spent the day visiting Ontario campuses, including the University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, Queen’s, Guelph, Laurier, and Waterloo. Through these tours, students explored diverse programs and campus cultures to help them make informed decisions about their next steps. It was a valuable opportunity to envision their futures, weighing options and reflecting on the goals and passions that drive them.

Our October Intersession exemplified the power of experiential learning, where hands-on activities help our students discover, grow, and connect. We look forward to seeing how these experiences shape the months ahead as each student continues their journey.
