Flavors of Wellness: Spanish Students Cook with Purpose
As part of their unit on "Bienestar" (well-being), our Grade 12 Spanish students spent a class cooking three healthy dishes that have origins in Bolivia and Mexico: quinoa salad, chilaquiles and sopa de maíz (corn soup). Their dishes included corn and tomatillos that they harvested at our farm at Northcote (and froze) in the fall.
Our Director Food Services, Michael Dodds, dropped by and gave them some tips about how to prepare a good vinaigrette! The students worked together, honing both their Spanish and culinary skills. It was a delicious and engaging way to deepen their appreciation for the connection between language, culture, and well-being while experiencing their harvest’s journey from farm to table.
