Exploring AI in the Classroom: Teachers Share Innovation and Insights with “AI Micro-Talks"

At LCS, innovation starts with curiosity and grows through collaboration. This month, our faculty came together for an exciting initiative that showcased how artificial intelligence is being thoughtfully integrated into our classrooms. Through a series of "AI Micro-Talks," teachers shared their experiences, discoveries, and vision for technology-enhanced learning that stays true to our student-centered approach.

On January 15th, while students enjoyed their Wednesday morning sleep-in, the School buzzed with energy as teachers gathered to learn from one another. Colleagues chose three specialized sessions that aligned with their teaching interests, discovering how their peers are innovatively using AI while maintaining authentic learning experiences for our students.

The diversity of approaches was remarkable. Andrew Johnston, our Program Leader for Outdoor Education, demonstrated how AI technology can enhance athletic development, using a tool called Flint to analyze skiing techniques and provide detailed feedback. In another session, Grade 9 Science teacher and Grade 9 Leader Ali Webb shared valuable insights into students' attitudes around engaging with AI, presenting research that will help shape a structured framework for technology integration.

Our Learning Support team brought an essential perspective to the conversation, exploring how AI tools can be thoughtfully adapted to support different learning styles and needs. Their insights are helping us ensure that our approach to AI remains inclusive and beneficial for all students.

What stood out throughout these sessions was our faculty's commitment to responsible innovation. Teachers aren't just asking "How can we use AI?" but rather "How can we use AI to enhance learning while staying true to our values?" Students are active participants in this journey, providing valuable feedback that helps shape how we integrate these tools into their learning experiences.

The success of these Micro-Talks highlights something special about our LCS communitythe willingness to learn from each other and innovate together. As we continue to explore the role of AI in education, we're excited to share more stories of how technology is enriching the LCS learning experience while maintaining the personal connections and authentic learning opportunities that make our school unique.
