Wednesday, January 29 marked the start of the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Snake. This time of year provides an opportunity for numerous festive celebrations within the LCS community. Students Evelyn ’25, Aniece ’25, Alvina ’25, and Hansen ’25 shared a wonderful presentation on the traditions surrounding the Lunar New Year, and our International Club announced a lineup of popular events.
On Wednesday evening, our students enjoyed an Asian-themed dinner in the dining hall, followed by a spectacular fireworks display over our beautiful waterfront. They also gathered with friends to celebrate with hot pot, favourite snacks, and games.
On Saturday, February 1, students, parents, and other community members came together for the annual Food and Culture Festival, which highlights foods and traditions from countries celebrating the Lunar New Year. This year, we were treated to a delicious menu of catered food from regions such as Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Bokyung ’25 also dedicated her time to creating home-cooked Korean dishes, including Kimchi Pancakes, Braised Pork with Kimchi, and Tteokguk (traditional Lunar New Year soup).
The annual dumpling-making workshop saw over 60 students participate, with staff and family members joining in to learn the tradition of making intricately folded and delicious dumplings. Thanks to the invaluable support of our parent volunteers, students were expertly guided through the process, making over 800 dumplings for afternoon snacking and the evening dinner buffet.
We are deeply grateful to the following parents who volunteered their time to help make this event a success:
George and Gloria Sun P’28

This talented group of parents, not only led the dumpling-making but also assisted in organizing the event, setting up a Bubble Tea station, and transforming Upper Hadden Hall into a festive Lunar New Year buffet area. Our students spent the afternoon singing, dancing, and playing Mahjong, traditional card games, and other games in the Learning Commons. The evening concluded with a delicious buffet dinner, complete with traditional snacks, desserts, and drinks for students to take home.
This event has become a cherished tradition in our community, uniting parents, students, and staff in a joyful celebration of the Lunar New Year. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to its success—especially our dedicated parent volunteers, whose generosity and hard work brought this event to life.
