Science in Action: Engaging Experiments in Ms. Roger’s Classes
Students in Ms. Roger’s science classes recently engaged in hands-on activities that brought key scientific concepts to life.
In the Grade 11 Physics class, students took on the challenge of designing, building, and testing their own balloon-powered cars. This culminating assignment provided an opportunity to apply principles of physics in a practical setting. The project required them to not only construct their vehicles but also to conduct experiments, analyze the resulting data, and reflect on the outcomes. Students explored the mechanics of motion, force, and energy transfer, gaining a deeper understanding of how theoretical concepts manifest in real-world applications. The iterative process of testing and modifying their designs encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving, as students considered how changes in structure and materials could improve performance.
Meanwhile, in the Grade 10 Science class, students participated in a frog dissection activity designed to enhance their understanding of biological structures and systems. Through this hands-on exploration, students examined tissues, organs, and organ systems, making direct comparisons between the anatomy of frogs and humans. This exercise not only reinforced their knowledge of biological concepts but also fostered a greater appreciation for the complexity and interconnectivity of living organisms. Observing the similarities and differences between species provided valuable insights into evolutionary biology and human physiology.
In both classes students were able to connect theoretical knowledge with tangible experiences, fostering a more meaningful and lasting understanding of the scientific principles at play.
