The NEW Nordic Skiing Sprint Course at LCS

The pandemic may have created a few challenges for our Nordic skiing program this season, but not for our skiers. What the Nordic skiing season lacked in inter-school competition, it made up for with the excitement surrounding our new 900m sprint course. The sprint loop takes advantage of the hills adjacent to the Andy Harris track to create exciting opportunities for both fast downhills and challenging climbs. Beginner or not, we could scarcely distract our skiers from their constant desire to throw themselves at this fun, new challenge.
We were able to hold our own Friday Night Lights relay competition and had a great crowd of spectators out to watch and cheer our first event on the new course. Our Nordic Signature Program SICs, Aidan Melville ’21 and Ilana Mohamed ’21 made some well-balanced teams of four skiers; we put on some race suits, and went for it.
I always find it gratifying to see the athletes discover something new inside themselves when they race, and this event was no different. Everyone put on a good show for the spectators, but more importantly for themselves.
