Grade 11 Biology: A Week of Marine Marvels and Scientific Discovery!
This week in our Grade 11 Biology course, our students embarked on an action-packed journey that brought them up close and personal with the fascinating marine life of Passamaquoddy Bay in New Brunswick. From the decks of a research vessel (similar to a lobster boat), they delved into the depths of the bay to gather samples and uncover the hidden treasures of its diverse ecosystem.
As the research vessel cruised the waters, our students were met with a plethora of marine organisms. Live seastars, urchins, scallops, sea vase, barnacles, and more were carefully collected and earmarked for lab investigations. The opportunity to interact with these creatures was an engaging hands-on experience that ignited curiosity in our young biologists.
Amidst the exploration, an unexpected treat awaited our students. They savoured the taste of fresh, raw scallops—a unique culinary experience that connected them even further with the marine environment they were studying.
Each day, our students honed their scientific skills, asked thought-provoking questions, made precise observations, and recorded vital scientific information. The practice of identifying new organisms has made our students proficient in their pursuit of scientific knowledge.
